For those who want to be reassured that we are not suffering fractures, poisoning or breakdowns, permanently at least, these are the pages to read.
Where are we now?
Two weeks into our big trip we have finally had a real hot shower (real means between three solid walls and no concerns of the water running out). This happy event coincides with eating meals at Sunsets Café in Denham where not only are the meals prepared in a real kitchen (real in the context of kitchen has similar connotations to that on real in terms of shower) but there is also wireless internet for a princely sum of $5.00 for 30 minutes : )
So, it would seem that two weeks is Carole’s threshold for bush camping.
Don’t get me wrong the camping has been fabulous and now that I have had said shower and health regulation approved food I’m looking forward to another two weeks on the road and in the bush.
The question is…
How come we are barely a thousand clicks up the road from Perth and yet have covered in the region of 2,500 on our odometer?
Well the original itinerary got scrapped before we left North Perth. The howling wind and thunderous rain gave us a clear message that our first destination was Gidgegannup for dinner and long overdue sleepover at Adelaide’s via Sanga Jacks to pick up a Pizza, it was all Hunky Dory.
That’s how hard core we are, first night camping successfully avoided, so really 13 nights bush camping is my threshold.
Since we were on the deviant road north (ish) we continued on our journey to Geraldton and in particular the Abrolhos as our must see destination for the initial stage of the journey.
Now we could have driven directly to Geraldton in a day, we didn’t, we took three days! Not because I was driving at 80 km, not because we got lost and not because of any fractures, poisoning and breakdowns. Definitely because of an EC decision to reduce travel time on roads we have travelled before and we have seen the coastal route from Perth to Gero a few times so we went country.
In response to the earlier question the answer might be Emily and Carole don’t do straight routes and time is not their master and certainly not something they have mastered either.
For details on the County to Coast route see the next page I upload.

That all sounds fabulous dear! I love that you are taking deviant routes, and you have a much higher thresh-hold for camping than I – mine is zero!

Hi ladies… or should I say troopers!
I am loving the blog and all your interesting bits of info. I admire your tenacity and upbeat sense of humour and wish I had those inclinations towards camping and the outdoors.
The great thing is I can experience it all through your blog without leaving my comfortable armchair! However, if camping is as infectious as you are making it… maybe I might try it oneday.
Anyway, can’t wait to see your next posting – I hope the weather is getting better for you both.
Warm wishes

I’m about to start my next anxiety phase as you head out on yet another bout of ‘no mobile contact’ into the wide blue yonder where crocodiles lurk just waiting to gobble up my preciousness and sand pits big enough to swallow Pearl lie hidden off the beaten track (or on it as the case may be).
Looking forward to your next SMS and news of the cultural and geographical wonders of inland Australia … in my day we called it the ‘dead heart’. xxx
